Scouts Hold Cleaning Campaign At Serasa


Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association yesterday joined the rest of the world in participating in the environviental campaign "Clean Up the World 2010" held at Serasa Beach, Muara.
The guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, the Minister of Culture,Youth and Sports.
Also present were Dato Paduka Awang Haji Idris bin Hj Abas, the President of the association, and Hj Awang Badar bin Awang Hj Ali, the Chief Commissioner of Scouts.
"Clean Up the World 2010" campaign with the theme "Communities caring for mature" is the biggest global environmental campaign organised by the United Nation Environmental Programmers (UNEP) and the committee of Clean up the World.
It was estimated that 35 million volunteers from 120 countries took part in the event. Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association along with other scout movements in the Asia-Pacific region such as Australia, Japan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Singapore and the Philippines participated in the campaign.
With the participation, Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association hoped that the campaign will raise awareness among the scout community as well as the general public that maintaining cleanliness can be done by everyone with ease.
A total of 15 groups of scouts had a one-day camp before the cleaning campaign. Four activities were organised by the Brunei Darussalam Scout Association for the "Clean Up the World 2010" campaign.
The activities are cleaning campaign around the Serasa Water Sport Complex, a group of scouts went to the water to collect rubbish by using canoes and boats, the Brunei Scout Divers team along with members of a diving association collected rubbish from the seabed and, the final activity was cleaning campaign at the Fish Landing Area at Serasa Beach.
